Johnnie and Vickie Orr (U.S. Missionaries) founded Refuge of the Pines in Guaimaca, Honduras in March 2001, but had been ministering to children there the previous 8 years. Their mission started by seeing the need to help children who were seeking refuge from extremely difficult circumstances, rescuing many from abandonment, poverty, and exploitation. More than once, Johnnie and Vickie took in babies whose parents simply couldn't afford to raise. The Orr's worked hard to create a forever home for wayward children in Honduras. Since their beginnings in Honduras, the Orr's have raised over 50 children, some have gone on to college, some have found fulfilling jobs, and some have grown to raise their own families. A few still look to Johnnie and Vickie for continued mentorship and spiritual guidance and regularly visit the ranch. Additionally, the Orr's cultivated a working ranch that continues to provide food and resources for the ranch and the surrounding communities. The ranch boasts as a Christian camp for young people and an internship for visiting mission teams from the U.S. Present and future partnerships exist that link the ranch's agricultural resources with local students to acquire credits and skills for sustainment and employment.
Johnnie's and Vickie's mission is to share Christ's love and manifest His Gospel with those in need in Honduras. By God's grace, strength, and provision, they continue to serve Hondurans in miraculous ways. They seek God's continued guidance and calling and welcome the prayerful, financial, and interning partnerships to continue their work. Mission Values: Our mission is to apply ourselves to the teachings of God's word, which encourages, creates, and promotes an environment that is focused on serving and loving Jesus and one another. We believe this can best be accomplished in a setting like that of an "ol' family ranch," rather than calling our ministry an institution, mission, orphanage, or the like. Our focus is on family, the family of God, a living entity.
